TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AREA

Stakeholder management

Stakeholders includes identification, engagement, and monitoring, alongside communications.

The Eighth Edition groups content differently. Related topics can appear in several domains and chapters.

Understand the area

Stakeholders are people or groups who affect or are affected by project outcomes. Identify them early, understand their interests and influence, plan meaningful engagement, communicate appropriately and reassess as conditions change. Alignment is not the same as universal agreement; record concerns and negotiate feasible responses.

Work through a project

Map the regulator, road operator, contractor, suppliers, emergency services and local residents for a barrier replacement. Some need formal approval; others need access coordination or timely notice. Revisit their concerns when the closure plan changes.

Check your reasoning

  1. Who can affect delivery or use the outcome?
  2. What kind of engagement is required, not merely what message?
  3. How will you detect that expectations or influence have changed?
