TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AREA
Schedule management
Schedule covers time modeling, forecasting, and schedule control.
The Eighth Edition groups content differently. Related topics can appear in several domains and chapters.
Understand the area
Model when work can occur, how activities depend on one another, and what evidence supports forecasts. The approved baseline is a reference for control; a current forecast can change without automatically changing the baseline. Focus on dependencies, constraints, the critical path, and realistic availability rather than merely compressing every task.
Work through a project
Sequence design approval, steel fabrication, shipping, site closure, groundworks, installation, testing and road reopening. If a permit moves, recalculate the finish forecast and investigate recovery options before promising that unrelated fabrication acceleration will solve it.
Check your reasoning
- Which predecessor actually controls the next milestone?
- What changed: baseline, forecast, or both?
- What is the schedule effect of unavailable crews or delayed permits?
